When my previous cats would puke, I'd actually let it dry for a while because it's easier to clean up when it's not fresh.
(Knock on wood) CJ has not puked ever since last May when she came home, other than a couple of times when she got too hungry and ate too fast, but I don't count that because that's preventable.
i keep a spare rubbermaid grout brush for those dried pukey crusty areas. yech.
we have one of these (hence the grout brush): http://tinyurl.com/7putzb , & it was great for the muck in chicago. it's also obi's favorite place to hork. think ll bean needs to develop "pukehog" technology.
First cat puke. The culprit? Charlie. He's lucky he's so cute. I'm lucky I was home so I found it before it dried and crusted all over our wooden bath mat.
I actually did not have any vomit to clean up while on the cross country RV trip, amazingly enough, but one of the cats did pee all over me while I was sleeping and destroyed my comforter. So, that was fun, except not.
