Another VFF Aboretum romp with P. Stuck to the roads for a change. Brilliant sun and clear blue skies. Chilly in the shade. Maples starting to turn! P's achilles tendon hurt, so we were even more la

Jeremy's Run Run, part of it along the Appalachian Trail, with K, G and a handful of others, in my Mountain Masochist foot armor. Big climb, then a nice runnable descent. Some of it delightfully pine-needle-scented. The first leaves turning with a late-summer goldenness.

Rancho San Antonio
I was aiming for about 5 miles. I either parked in the wrong spot or made a wrong turn.
Definitely the most "run friendly" of the places I've done so far. Some fire roads, some bike trails, some well worn paths. It seemed like it got rockier 3/4 of the way through, but some of that was on trails I had already traversed, so maybe feet were just getting bruised.
The trail is pretty busy, especially the mile closest to the parking lot on the way to the farm (not surprisingly). The grade there is pretty flat with a slight rise on the way out and easy to run.
There was a good mile of much steeper climbing about 1.3 miles in that goes for upwards of a mile. The views at the top are pretty great though.
Once past that, the trail traffic REALLY thins out, the trail descends nicely, and the path is mostly smooth, single track, and darting in and out of cover. It would be great if you could to that part of the run without all of the preliminaries, but that's just not how it works.
All in all, not too shabby. A little hamstring soreness towards the end and I've got to figure out a solution to the heel & big toe blister problem with distance. Still, the pace can't be much worse than the Bay to Breakers 12K.

I had a better shot at making this look more comparable until you re-discovered it. That's OK. I'll just sit here in awe.

The whole thing was beautiful, but the first half was a FAR better
run. While a very steep climb for the first 3/4 mile, the next 1.45
was great. Not too rocky, mostly flat or downhill with the occasional
gentle rise. The 2nd half was on another hill and while certainly a
more beautiful course, far more suited to hiking than running. Narrow,
mostly rocky, slick tracks with steep drops to a craggy creek bed
below. In the winter there is supposedly a waterfall and a creek
crossing or 2.

Trail running should be measured in mud splatters, not miles.
