looking at that ad, know i paid $30 for mine, and the new ones have a zippered pocket inside. i'm curious to call and find out if they're cheaper if they are ordered w/o zippered pocket.
& cause now i feel like an asshole for suggesting $50 shopping bags.
i swear i'm done typing now.

i know, way expensive. but the cordura will NEVER fail (5 yrs strong, no fraying so far). today i put 6 heavy liquid containers in 1!
other than that, i have 2 trader joes bags (one insulated, one canvas that i use just for meat stuff). 2 whole foods bags, which suck for the most part but are the only bags i've seen with a long strap in addition to the 2 shorter ones.
i'm totally one of those people who precariously straps insane amounts of weight to my body to avoid a second trip to the car.

running the bags back out to the car after use? that's what kids are for!
i've been religious with my bags for a couple of years now. sara has the right idea, with the insulated bags, too.
i think my favorite (albeit expensive/quality) shopping bag are the bags from tom bihn. i have 2 in my car, and i swear i can get about 6-8 bags of groceries in them. this was handy when i lived in chicago and had to park my car and walk several blocks to my apartment.

I shall gather ALL reusables tonight and put them on the door. Huzzah!

Yes, Sara I have the same issues that you do - failure to return reusables to car. Ii should try the front doorknob trick. That's just crazy enough to work!

I keep a bunch of reusable bags in my trunk, including a couple of insulated ones. The tough part is remembering to put them back in the car after I've brought the groceries in, but my habit is to hang them on the front doorknob after I've unpacked them. Then I have to see them every time I leave. It's finally starting to feel like a habit.

#bags of
One of my resolutions for 2009 is to use fewer plastic bags. I'm going to put the zillion or so canvas totes I own in my car and travel with them. I'm thinking that knowing just how many bags I waste in a year might be just the catalyst I need.
