I bought a bunch from reuseablebags.com and keep them on a carabiner clip. easy to keep track of and they clip onto the shopping cart. They have insulated "lunch" bags too.
TJ's has a couple of different insulated bags for cheap. One is regular bag shaped with a velcro closure at the top, and one is large and sort of shaped like a cooler. Also handy for picnics! (They are in my trunk, and you are down the hall. I suppose I could just show you.)
One of my resolutions for 2009 is to use fewer plastic bags. I'm going to put the zillion or so canvas totes I own in my car and travel with them. I'm thinking that knowing just how many bags I waste in a year might be just the catalyst I need.

Those are right lovely bags. I have about a zillion little canvas ones, but I think I am going to have to get an insulated one at some point.
I also take five zillion bags at once to avoid making two trips. It is the habit of mine most likely to cause permanent carpal tunnel.
